Did you know:

• 160,000 children stay home from school every day because they are afraid of being bullied
• 30% of today's youth are being affected by bullying
• Bullying is the 3rd leading cause of teen suicide in our country

We used to say "Sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you". THAT WAS A LIE!! Name-calling is very hurtful - name-calling is bullying.

Our culture has been so invaded by the "me-first" attitude that violence, rage and rude behavior have become common and almost expected. We need to take action now, at an early age, to counter this attitude and these behaviors by promoting civility, care, kindness, encouragement, respect and compassion for one another.

It is so simple, yet so powerful! A smile, a gentle pat on the back, a word of encouragement - any one of these simple actions can mean so much. We need to demonstrate that simple acts of care and kindness can not only change the world around us, they can also change the world within us.
